I was recently part of a conversation on The Brand Called You podcast with Ashutosh Garg.
We talked about something I’ve seen up close for years.
Men and women who are doing well.
Building businesses.
Hitting goals.
And still asking a quiet question:
Is this all there is?
Profit matters.
It’s measurable.
It tells you if something is working.
But it was never meant to carry the weight of your life.
I’ve seen leaders reach levels they once dreamed of…
only to realize it doesn’t answer the deeper question.
That’s where purpose comes in.
Not as a slogan.
Not as something you add later.
As a foundation.
Something that holds when the numbers fluctuate.
Something that gives direction when the path is unclear.
And there’s a bridge between the two.
People.
The team you lead.
The partners you trust.
The residents, customers, clients you serve.
If purpose feels distant, it’s often because people have become transactional.
When relationships deepen, meaning follows.
Most leaders don’t drift off course because they intend to.
They drift because they never stop long enough to ask better questions.
Reflection matters.
So does community.
A small group of people who will tell the truth.
Who will ask what others won’t.
I’ve watched what happens in those rooms.
Clarity returns.
Decisions sharpen.
Lives change direction.
Success is a good thing.
But it’s not the final thing.
At some point, the question shifts.
From “How am I doing?”
To “What is this for?”
That is a question worth pursuing.
